Hi Everyone! And a very big welcome from me! There's a new colour challenge over at Colour INKspirations Challenge and while I love the colours, I actually found it difficult to put a card together. I will still enter it because it's always good to show others there can be struggles when creating.
Warning - this card is a quite product heavy.
For this card I started with a Melon Mambo base, added a Gold Foil matte layer followed by a second matte layer in Basic Black. I created hexagons in the challenge colours using the Tailored Tag punch and for added interest, stamped tone on tone on the Melon Mambo card stock and used the Tasteful Textiles Embossing Folder on the Just Jade card stock. I also punched out a couple of hexagons in the Magic In This Night Designer Series Paper (DSP)
To create hexagons, trim a strip of card stock to 1 1/2" to any length and the place centrally in the punch taking care to have equal gaps on each side. I found the easiest way to make sure everything was lined up properly was to trim a piece of grid paper and place this into the punch and mark the grid lines with a permanent marker equally on each side. Now the punch is marked for any future hexagons I might like to punch.
I stamped the large floral image from the Fancy Phrases stamp set in Versamark Ink on Whisper White Card stock then heat embossed in gold. Once cooled, I fussy cut around the image leaving a small white border. I did the same process for the Happy Birthday sentiment but on Basic Black card stock and then die cut it using the banner die from the Tasteful Labels dies. I wasn't completely happy with how this turned out. While I think the gold embossing looks a little dull on the black, I felt this was the best choice in terms of colour.
I went ahead and arranged my hexagons and and when I was happy, I glued them down on the piece of Basic Black card stock leaving a small black border between each one. Once it was dry, I flipped it over and trimmed where the hexagons overhung the black card stock. It's a bit difficult to see, but I have put the top two DSP hexagons and the gold foil hexagon up on dimensionals for added interest. The gold embossed floral image was placed over the top of the hexagons and adhered, using either glue on the higher hexagons or dimensionals where the level was lower. Gold trim from the Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack was wrapped twice and tied to give a little more bling to the card. The sentiment banner was also adhered using dimensionals.
For the inside of the card, I stamped the same large floral image in Memento Black Tuxedo ink in the lower right hand corner of a piece of Whisper White card stock.
