Bloom & Grow - Colour INKspiration Challenge #88

Hello and thanks for popping in!  I loved the colour choices for the lates Colour INKspiration Challenge: Crumb Cake, Crushed Curry, Just Jade and Pretty Peacock.  As per the rules, we were also allowed metallics, white/black.

For this, I grabbed the Bloom & Grow stamp set and decided I would attempt some water colouring.  Let's say my first couple of attempts were nothing to write home about, haha! Thanks to Alisa Tilsner and her You Tube videos, I have managed to produce an image that fits the challenge. I also used a little artistic license and used the Saddle Brown Stazon Ink - close enough to Crumb Cake in my books.

Supplies Needed:
  • Stamp Set:  Bloom & Grow
  • Dies: Budding Blooms
  • Cardstock:  Crumb Cake, Pretty Peacock, Whisper White, Fluid 100 Water Colour Paper
  • Inks:  Stazon Saddle Brown, Crumb Cake, Crushed Curry, Just Jade, Pretty Peacock
  • Water Painters (set of three)
  •  2020 - 2022 In Colour Enamel Dots
  • Adhesives: Tombow Liquid Glue, Mini Dimensionals
  • Stamparatus
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Cut & Emboss Machine

I began by stamping the image twice in Stazon Saddle Brown on Fluid 100 Water Colour Paper.  Using the smallest water painter, I coloured the flowers in a light shade of Crushed Curry and allowing it to dry before I went back in with a stronger shade to create dimension and shadows, again allowing to dry a little before I continued with the next step.

Next I went and coloured the leaves. Firstly I laid down a light Just Jade over each leaf then went back in and added Pretty Peacock to the bases and any areas I thought there would be a shadow, allowing the colours to blend as much as possible.

Lastly I used Crumb Cake to colour the berries/buds firstly with a light shade, then again with a dark shade towards the base where they join the stems.

This completed my colouring. I die cut both images and put aside.

My Whisper White layer measures a full 1" smaller on both sides than my card and the Pretty Peacock layer is 1/8" larger on both sides than the Whisper White which gives a small 1/16" border.

Using the Stamparatus for accurate placement, I stamped the sentiment in Crumb Cake on the piece of Whisper White towards the top allowing room to place one of the die cut images.

To assemble my card topper, I started with gluing the Whisper White piece to the Pretty Peacock cardstock then taking one of the watercoloured images, I attached this to the Whisper White piece with Mini Dimensionals.  This whole piece of glued to the card base with Tombow Liquid Glue.

I took a piece of Whisper White cardstock trimmed down 1/4" smaller on both sides than my card to allow a border of 1/8" all round. I glued the second watercoloured imaged to the bottom and trimmed where it overhanged the edges.  I glued this into the centre of my card.
