Creating Kindness Design Team October 2020 - Embossing With A Twist featuring Peace & Joy Bundle

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog!

I was very honoured and just a tad excited, to be asked to be Guest Designer for this month's Blog Hop at Creating Kindness (Around The World).

Our theme for October is 'Embossing With A Twist' and the technique I'm sharing today was inspired by a video I saw quite a while ago that uses your dies to make an impression as well as an image that you can heat emboss.  It's a great way to make your supplies go further and can be accomplished with any intricate dies you may have.

You will need an embossing/impression mat for your die cutting machine to achieve this technique. I have one that I used with my old die cutting machine however, Stampin' Up! will be releasing a new version very soon that can be used with their new Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. I also recommend using an embossing buddy if you still have one or some other anti-static powder tool, it will definitely help.

Lying the word die from the Joy Dies set flat on my crafting surface, I very gently pressed my Versamark Ink Pad over the top so I'm only applying ink to the raised cutting edge of the die. I carefully placed the inked die, cutting edge down, onto a piece of card stock and ran this through my Cut & Emboss Machine using the 'sandwich' that you use for embossing.  However, placing an embossing mat between the cardstock and bottom cutting plate will allow the die to leave an impression rather than cutting through.

Careful not to move the die once it has been placed down.  I used a little bit of washi tape to help hold it in place.

I applied silver embossing powder over this and heat set. You are then left with an embossed outline of your word. Cool hey!

Taking the smaller shadow of the same word, I die cut the embossed impression. To complete the full greeting for the front of my card, I stamped the block sentiments from the same stamp set on a piece of scrap cardstock the same as your card base in Versamark Ink and again, heat embossed in silver and trimmed.

To assemble my card, I began with my card base and layered a piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) on Silver Foil.  I placed a piece of vellum, die cut using the largest scalloped rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly die set on top of this and arranged a few of the leaves/sprigs from the Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty Paper using the white side rather than the gold.  These were stuck down onto the vellum using the mini dimensionals under my sentiment pieces.

I also added a few small white dots from the All The Trimmings Embellishments to give a little more interest.

For the centre of my cards, I glued a piece of Whisper White card stock inside with a strip of matching DSP that had been left over from the sheet to the bottom edge. This is a great use of any scraps and finishes off the inside of your cards beautifully.
